David
explains: "my pond has many unusual plants, including the bog bean - it
has delicate, fragile flowers and brittle stems, but its roots are incredibly
powerful and force themselves through the most unlikely gaps. This was the inspiration
for the piece of music. The intro comes from weeks of recording a blackbird
-chirping away as I write this - who sings in the trees at the end of the garden.
I stuck a microphone in a tree and ran 200 feet of cable to the house, and taped
from 4 til 6 every morning. Eventually I chose some favourite phrases and rearranged
them for 3 horns. Listen closely and you'll hear the bird chime in at the end
of the intro. This tune is dedicated to that fruity little warbler." |
