| TEN GREAT
ALBUMS
These albums have either been a big influence on Steve's musical outlook or are ones that he'd take to his desert island:
SOME OTHER THINGS ABOUT STEVE
MUSO STUFF Steve has a variety of fine musical instruments and top quality equipment. If you're interested in this kind of thing, this is what he's got: An Old Saxon Double-Bass, made around 1880. He uses an Underwood pick-up and Thomastic Spirocore strings for Jazz work, D'Addario Helicore Orchestral Series strings for arco work. A bow made by Seifert and Artcraft rosin. His 'stunt bass' is a robust East German Double Bass by Gerhard Meinel. He also uses a Clevinger electric upright bass: great for travelling. One of his prized possessions is a custom-built 6-string Bass Guitar made by Geoff Finch. This is the only one of its kind in the world, and was designed by Steve and Geoff to suit Steve's playing style: it can be heard to good effect on Dig Dig. Steve also has two Fender Jazz Basses, a passive one from the late 1970s and a snarling, spitting active one from the 1990s, which was given to him by Fender when he graduated from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood in 1996. He uses GHS Bass Strings, which were also given to him when he graduated from the MI.His amplifier is an SWR Redhead combo, sometimes augmented by a Peavey Bassfex effects rack. There are some excellent places in America for getting hold of Double Bass equipment, CDs, music etc. Try these out: Liben Music Publishers or Lemur Music or Samuel Kolstein &Son Ltd |
